The full form of CRT in computer is Cathode Ray Tube.
What is the full meaning of CRT in computer?
It is a specialized vacuum tube that is used as a display screen in computer monitors and TV which produces pictures in the form standard composite video signal.
What are the Features of CRT?
- Operating voltage
- Deflection voltage
- Viewing screen
- Electron gun assembly
- Glass envelope
- Electron beams

How does CRT work?
The CRT consists of numerous electron beams. Whether interlaced or non-interlaced, they move across the screen.
There are millions of phosphor dots in a CRT monitor which glow when hit by the electron beams. This clash between the two accelerates deflects and modulates the electron beams on the screen to create visible images.
What are the types of CRT?
There are two major types of CRTs, picture tube ( used in television) and display tube ( used in computer). Apart from these two there are other types also.
- Monochrome CRT
- Color CRT
- Projection CRT
- Radar CRT
- Oscilloscope CRT
- Flood beam CRT
- Slimmer CRT
What are the differences between CRT and LCD?
- CRT contains vacuum glass tube, phosphor, electron beam whereas LCD contains liquid crystal, glass plates.
- CRT consumes high power whereas LCD consumes low power.
- In CRT there is image flickering whereas in LCD there is no image flickering.
- CRT is used in computer monitors and television whereas LCD is used in flat screen.
Are CRT monitors dangerous?
CRT is probably the most dangerous parts of a computer. The color CRT consists of mercury and other toxic materials. If the CRT breaks, these components will be released that might be harmful while manufacturing or repairing.
Also a charged CRT contains about 27,000 volts of electricity that can cause serious damage.
