What does JVM mean in terms of computers?
Java virtual machine is a program that executes the Java code. It helps the computer to convert the programming languages to be compiled into Java bytecode.
Java being a high-level language is more readable to humans than the computer, hence JVM is needed so that Java code is understood by the computer too.
Though the compilation leads to consumption of more time when compared to low-level language.

What are the parts of JVM?
The JVM is generally divided into 3 main components.
- ClassLoader Sub-system: This part of the JVM handles the functionality of java’s dynamic class loading system. When it directs to a class for the first time at runtime, it starts to load, link and initialize the class file. It consists of further 3 other class loaders ( bootstrap class loader, extension class loader, and application class loader).
- Runtime Data Area: All the class-level data, static variables, objects and their corresponding variables is stored here. It has 5 other components ( Method area, heap area, stack area, PC registers, and native method stacks).
- Execution Engine: The execution engine goes through the bytecode and executes it. It is further divided into 3 parts (interpreter, JIT compiler, garbage collector)

What are the advantages of JVM?
- In any platform that includes JVM, java binaries can work without any modification since the JVM uses the same bytecodes.
- Apart from its general task the JVM can monitor several other sections like sand-boxing, memory management, exception handling, memory safe reference etc.
- JVM suffers less from malicious activity.
What are the disadvantages of JVM?
- Few earlier JVM used to interpret every java bytecode which ultimately makes the overall work very slow.
- You would have to have all the JVM uploaded into your system, even if you do very small programming.
- Java objects always exists in heap that has a pointer where the JVM is running. But Java 7 has introduced a system that has 32-bits pointers in 64-bit environments.
- JVM should be free from errors since if the JVM fails the entire program will fail as well.
